The Taking the Time project sought to accomplish three main goals: to expose high school students in Montgomery, Alabama, to their rich local history by meeting those who took part in it; to teach Creative Writing students how to write effective non-fiction; and to publish a book of those writings both to further public awareness of the Civil Rights movement and to share the writing of talented young people with the public.
