Dr. Gwen Patton is a librarian and archivist at H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College. Dr. Patton has made a career of preserving the legacy of the Civil Rights movement both locally and nationally, as well as promoting its goal of equality. She maintains a plethora of Civil Rights archives, including those of notable Montgomery figures Rufus A. Lewis and Idessa Redden.
On April 5, 2005, students traveled to west Montgomery to Trenholmís library to visit with Dr. Patton and view some of her archives. After viewing the archives of Mr. Lewis, Mrs. Redden, and Dr. Pattonís own materials, she talked to the students about her own experiences in the mid-1960s as a young college student who took part in the Selma-to-Montgomery March.
