The Taking the Time project was developed by Foster Dickson for his Creative Writing students during the 2004-2005 school year. The project was supported by generous grants from the Southern Poverty Law Centerís Teaching Tolerance program and from the Gannett Foundation, the charitable arm of the parent company of the Montgomery Advertiser. Of the 28 students in the Creative Writing magnet, 22 students are published in the book. No student work was declined, but some chose not to publish their writing. Students from other magnets ñ Law, Journalism, and Photography ñ accompanied the Creative Writing students on some events, with the Photography students providing the images seen on this website.
